Essential oils can be a great, natural option for helping with all aspects of acne, from prevention or treatment to helping to heal scarring. Acne is predominantly caused by Propionibacterium acnes bacteria breading in clogged pores. Essential oils such as Thyme, Cinnamon Leaf, Rose, Tea tree and Lavender all have bactericidal properties that have been shown to be effective in killing the P.acnes bacteria. Lavender and Tea tree could also help with easing redness and swelling. Add any of these oils to Jojoba oil as a carrier, and then apply it topically to the affected area.
When it comes to prevention, Lemon oil could be a great choice. Add it to a daily cleanser to help clear the pores and give your skin an antioxidant boost. It can also help promote healing and reduce breakouts.
Here is a lovely every day cleanser recipe you may like to try:
125ml Aloe Vera Gel
125ml Rose Water
50ml Castile liquid Soap
20ml Jojoba oil
30 drops Lavender oil
30 drops Lemon oil
Gently massage cleanser all over the face for a couple of minutes, avoiding the eyes, before rinsing off completely and drying with a clean towel.
